It's been a busy time for Google in the last couple of months. In June they rolled out the Core Web Vitals algorithm update and, as of 1 July, they will be rolling out the second part of that update. It is anticipated that it will take up to 2 weeks for the update to roll out completely. While all that is going on they have also been rolling out their Page Experience Update which will continue rolling out up until the end of August.

Google Chrome has announced that it plans to end the use of third-party cookies by 2022. While this change appears to be quite a big deal, digital marketers have seen it coming for some time, largely as a result of changes in privacy regulations (GDPR, CCPA & ePR) and the increasingly invasive nature of the technology being used that now actively intrudes on user privacy. It’s worth noting that the planned changes will only affect third-party cookies and first-party cookies will remain unaffected at this stage.
The plan is to replace third party cookies with FLoC (Federation Learning of Cohorts) but what is FLoC, how will it impact paid advertising and user tracking and how can advertisers mitigate the impact of this change on their campaigns?

Following on from our What Will Google’s Core Web Vitals Algorithm Update Mean For You? We take a deeper look at Core Web Vitals, what they are, and what they could mean for your website.
In May 2020 Google first announced their intention to add enhanced user experience factors into the core algorithm. As part of this roll out, the Core Web Vitals (CWV) update is due to be released during June 2021.
Essentially Core Web Vitals centralises a number of user experience factors found in the Page Speed Insights report to make them easier to identify, track and improve.
It’s worth noting that at present it appears only a small percentage of websites are performing in line with Google’s standards in these areas. That means after the update rolls out in June, it is possible that a number of underperforming websites will see a negative impact on performance as a result.
