Hi, my name is Helen and I am just coming to the end of my first week of a five-week internship here at Innovation Visual.

A bit about my Background Helen Murray innovation visual intern

It was just last week that I was handing in my last piece of work at the University of Liverpool for my master’s degree in marketing. Prior to this, I worked for a number of years as an Assistant Manager at McDonald's. It was here that my passion for digital marketing was born. I was heavily involved in the day to day running of the store including managing people and accounts, enhancing the customer experience with events and implementing sales and marketing tactics.

Having watched an insightful webinar that Tim and Alex delivered at the University of Liverpool on a career in digital marketing, I thought I would jump at the chance to apply for the internship opportunity that Innovation Visual offered. I was keen to learn more as digital marketing interests me due to its ever-changing nature and rapid growth.

How did I find my first week?

On my first day, I was so nervous stepping out into the unknown and pushing myself outside my comfort zone. However, I had nothing to be worried about! Everyone at Innovation Visual has made me feel so welcome; especially Poppy, the office dog.

Having only completed 4 days, I have already learnt so much in such a short space of time which makes me excited for what I am going to learn in the remainder of the time here.

Already, I have completed a HubSpot qualification in Inbound Marketing which has really assisted in me learning the fundamentals behind what Innovation Visual do for clients and with understanding the language used in the office on a day to day basis.

On my first day, I was invited into a sales meeting with Tim in order to observe how to persuade and negotiate with potential clients which is of paramount importance in digital marketing.

I have also been involved in creating content for clients. This has allowed me to understand the importance of creating good quality content. From this, I have been able to establish a clear connection between producing content and the importance of using search engine optimisation to rank higher on Google.

What I’m Hoping to take away from the Internship

During my degree, I completed a module on Digital Marketing which provided me with key theories relating to digital marketing, however I am keen to put theory into practice and understand the tools and systems that are used daily; whether that be through creating content, understanding SEO or learning how to optimise and manage paid search accounts. Additionally, I want to learn as much as possible, challenge myself and develop skills that I can use to progress in a digital marketing career.

I am really excited to be completing this internship at Innovation Visual and would like to take this as an opportunity to thank the Innovation Visual team for their time and support.
